Background: The All-America Valley Basketball Club is an Amateur Athletic Union basketball club that specializes in training and developing competitive youth boys and girls basketball teams. The team name is derived from the fact that the Lower Naugatuck Valley Region in the State of Connecticut was designated an "All-America City" by the National Civic League in the year 2000. Also known as "The All-America Valley" or "The Valley", the region principally comprises six towns: Ansonia, Beacon Falls, Derby, Naugatuck, Seymour and Shelton. Culturally, The Valley is characterized as a working- to middle-class, conservative area with a hard work ethic and strong emotional ties to its New England industrial, mill towns legacy; though today, many of the towns are sprawling commuter towns with a high degree of suburbanization.
