The goal of the Luquillo Long-Term Ecological Research Program (LUQ) is to determine how changing climate and disturbance regimes interact to drive ecological change in natural and human modified landscapes in tropical montane ecosystems. Our site is based in Puerto Rico in El Yunque National Forest, a local cultural icon. LUQ includes both terrestrial and aquatic studies, from the peaks of the Luquillo Mountains to the coastal ecosystems of San Juan. This is a research program funded by the US National Science Foundation, the USDA Forest Service, and the University of Puerto Rico. The research program has been functional since 1988.
