Quite a few early design entries make use of desaturated colours which have a negative impact on the visual impact of the logo. Also if you do a logo with shadow and shine also include a "flat" version. "Shiny" logo's are nice for web but flat logo's often look better when printed so it's good to be able to see two versions.
