LipZip - logo design contest

LipZip is a reversible oral adhesive gel that has been developed by RespiraCorp. It is applied to the lips to enable the two surfaces of the lips to adhere to one another and thereby prevent mouth (oral) breathing and restore nasal breathing. It can provide continuous lip adhesion while sleeping for up to ten hours. The adhesion can be reversed in seconds by simply pressing the tongue between the lips to break the seal. After breaking the adhesion, the lips can be resealed by wetting them with water or saliva and pressing the lips together again. Maximum adhesion of the lips is obtained approximately fifteen minutes after the initial application of LipZip. The degree of adhesion obtained is such that should involuntary separation of the lips occur without first using the tongue to break the seal, the adhesion will be disrupted without causing any damage to the epithelium of the lips.

Mouth breathing is a major contributing factor in many individuals who suffer from snoring. Mouth breathing also predisposes to dryness of the lips and mouth, halitosis, mouth ulcers, dental conditions, facial deformities, nasal congestion and sinusitis. In addition to being a significant cause of snoring, mouth breathing also undermines the important health benefits provided by nasal breathing. Nasal breathing allows air to flow into the nasal canal and allows the paranasal sinuses to filter, moisturize, warm and dehumidify inhaled air prior to its entry into the lungs. These important functions of the sinuses help to fight infection and ensure that the lungs receive an infusion of high quality air.
